Dr. Kelly Hanscom

I grew up in a quaint town named Poolesville in Maryland, just a 45-minute drive from Washington, DC. My academic journey led me to the University of Maryland, where I earned both my BA and AuD

Originally, I thought my path would lead me to becoming a speech-language pathologist, but during my undergraduate studies I discovered that audiology was my true calling. The field's rapidly advancing technology and capacity for improving lives instantly drew me in. The chance to form meaningful relationships and make significant improvements in someone's life in just one appointment is truly motivating.

My professional journey led me to specialize as a tinnitus specialist, particularly working with veterans. Eventually, I joined Sound Relief, impressed by their exceptional expertise, personalized patient care, and innovative tinnitus treatments. Here I can continue my passion, with the freedom and time to genuinely connect with each patient.

In my day-to-day role, no two days are alike. I handle initial evaluations for hearing, tinnitus, or hyperacusis, follow-up visits, wax management, repairs, and fittings for hearing aids and tinnitus sound therapy. It's fulfilling to see the profound effects we have on our patients' lives, and to empower them is incredibly rewarding.

Each patient presents unique goals and challenges, and it's an invigorating process to navigate these barriers and devise personalized plans to help them regain control of their lives. I've been at Sound Relief since 2024, and the relationships built with both my coworkers and patients are truly special.

Outside of the office, I love embracing the great outdoors. Whether it's hiking, camping, or paddleboarding, I enjoy these activities with my boyfriend Mike and our two dogs, Norman and Merle.

If you could have dinner with one person, who would you choose?

I would love to have dinner with my Oma, who passed away when I was young, before I could really appreciate who she was. She immigrated to the US when she was 21 without speaking English and put herself through high school and college. She was a fierce person and I admire her resilience and ambition.
