Dr. Megan Read
I grew up deep in the heart of Texas, spending my early years in the beautiful hill country around San Antonio, as well as the small town of Monahans in West Texas. I earned my BS in Communication Disorders at Abilene Christian University, and I went on to earn my doctorate in Audiology from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
My journey into the world of hearing care began in college, where I worked as a sign language interpreter and got introduced to audiology through my work with children who had cochlear implants.
During my doctoral training, a clinical rotation with cochlear implants sparked a passion that led me to spend nine years exploring the “medical” side of audiology.
A pivotal moment in my career was training with Dr. Pawel Jastreboff, the renowned neuroscientist known as the “father” of tinnitus research. This experience inspired me to find a role where I could put this training to use—which led me to Sound Relief, my dream job!
Over the years, specializing in tinnitus and sound sensitivity has been incredibly fulfilling. Recently, I've expanded my expertise to include auditory processing too—I love learning and growing in my field.
In my day-to-day role as an audiologist, I get to do what I absolutely love. I meet with patients who struggle with various hearing issues, such as persistent tinnitus or increased auditory effort. Listening to their stories and understanding how these issues impact their relationships, work, social lives, and overall health is a privilege. Validating their experiences through testing, educating them about the auditory system, and designing effective treatment plans are what I find truly rewarding.
I thrive on creating those "aha" moments with my patients when we establish the right treatment path. I genuinely love everything about my work—there's nothing I would rather do.
Outside the office, I enjoy interpreting music at my church for Deaf/Hard of Hearing members, traveling with my family, and doing creative projects with my kids. But mostly, you'll find me birdwatching in my spare time.
